JCMS Orchestra is the hub of music in Jesus College and provides many opportunities for the numerous talented musicians in college to perform some of the best music that exists in the classical repertoire together. The 2016/2017 season promises to be as exciting as ever with great contrasts of music from the best and most memorable tunes to the rediscovery of great music that is rarely performed.
Recent concerts have featured Prokofiev, Mozart, Schubert, Khachaturian, Satie, and Mendelssohn's famous violin concerto, as well as the premier performance of a special commission by Sebastian Black and music from 'The Lord of the Rings', 'The King's Speech', and 'Les Misérables'.
JCMS Orchestra normally rehearses on Monday evenings in the Chapel.

The JCMS recital series is an integral part of music-making within College. It gives performers the opportunity to display their talent within the beautiful space of Jesus College Chapel.
Recitals take place weekly within Michaelmas and Lent Terms, at 8pm on a Saturday evening, usually lasting up to an hour. In Easter Term, there are no weekly recitals, but instead a series daily during May Week, with recitals taking place at lunchtime. There is ample opportunity for performers within College, including the College Choir, to give recitals in the series, but there are also performers and groups from within the University as a whole, and even outside the University. Instruments and repertoire featured in recitals vary hugely: from viol consorts to jazz groups, classical pianists to solo vocal music from all ages.
Anyone who is interested in giving a recital should contact the recitals manager, Gary.
The Jesus Singers is an SATB a capella choir that provides opportunities for students of Jesus College to perform fun repertoire, occasionally with the JCMS Orchestra. Past concerts have included performances of Whitacre's 'The Seal Lullaby', Otis Redding's 'Sittin' On The Dock Of The Bay', and Disney's 'I'll Make a Man Out Of You'. With concerts every term, the Singers look forward to repertoire inspired by John Lewis Christmas Adverts this year.
Rehearsals are held once a week, conducted by third year Music student Gary Rushton. Anyone wishing to join the Jesus Singers should make contact with Aiden Chan. Experience of singing in a choir is not essential: much more important is enthusiasm!
JCBB was founded in 2011. We are a non-audition group, open to all members of the college who play any sort of jazz instrument. The band welcomes people of all standards - all we require is an enthusiasm to play!!
The band performs a variety of musical styles - ranging from swing to jazz, funk to improv - the music need not necessarily be popular - just quality!!!
The band has progressed rapidly and put on a number of concerts throughout last year - a trend we hope to continue well into the future!.
JCBB rehearses weekly on Wednesday evenings from 8 'til 10pm, so all you budding jazzicions keep this time free!
Check back here later to find out what the band's playing right now.
