About Us

JCMS Orchestra is the hub of music in Jesus College and provides many opportunities for the numerous talented musicians in college to perform some of the best music that exists in the classical repertoire together.

The 2018/2019 season promises to be as exciting as ever with great contrasts of music from the best and most memorable tunes to the rediscovery of great music that is rarely performed.

Recent concerts have featured Beethoven, Gershwin, Schubert, and Mozart. Not to be restricted by the the classical canon, however, the ensemble regularly performs more ‘popular’ repertoire, such as extracts from The Lord of the Rings, The Sound of Music, and Harry Potter (the latter with the baton exchanged for a wand).

The opportunity to conduct the ensemble in concert is open to any Jesus College students: no prior experience is neccessary, and some training is available to new conductors. If you’re interested, please email the presidents.

Jesus Singers

The Jesus Singers is a non-audition vocal group that provides opportunities for students to perform fun repertoire from a range of genres, catering to all voice parts. Past concerts have included performances of Whitacre’s ‘The Seal Lullaby’, ‘Pompeii’ by Bastille, and Disney’s ‘I’ll Make a Man Out of You’. We perform concerts all year round, including a festive concert in Michaelmas term, and participating in ‘Sing!!!’ at Magdalene College in Lent term.

Rehearsals are held once a week, directed by second year engineer Agnes Fung. Anyone wishing to join Jesus Singers should make contact with the president, Ben Igielman. We welcome people of all singing backgrounds!

Jesus College Big Band

JCBB was founded in 2011: we’re open to all members of the college who play any sort of jazz instrument. The band doesn’t just play the swing standards; we also venture into the realms of funk, soul, and sometimes more contemporary pop covers. After popular performances at may balls in 2017 and 2018, the band hopes to continue growing in the 2018/19 season.
